Our Story
When Kansas City native Andrew Petrehn moved to Eagle 20 years ago, he could not find any Kansas style BBQ in the area. After his wife, Saundra McDavid, got tired of hearing him complain they decided to place a bet. If Andrew entered the “Trill of the Grill” BBQ contest and won anything he would open his own BBQ restaurant. That year Andrew was the 2003 Thrill of the Grill Grand Champion. He signed a lease for a restaurant in Eagle the next week. Throughout the years the restaurant has changed locations and today Rib Shack BBQ can be found at 395 W. State Street in downtown Eagle. Ask around for the best barbecue in Boise and you’ll hear Rib Shack. In fact, Rib Shack Barbecue was recently named the best barbecue in Idaho. Andrew stays as local as possible and the Rib Shack offers 10 taps of Idaho’s best craft beer and a selection of wine. The house favorite is the Rib Shack Red vintage blend from 2017. The Rib Shack is also known for it’s fall-off-the-bone tender baby back ribs. Meals typically include two side dishes and a fourth size sandwich with your choice of meats, ranging from pulled pork to burnt ends. Sliced tri tip is melt-in-your mouth delicious as well. All 10 sauces are made fresh in house and there is a flavor for everyone. Start in Kansas with the KC Original BBQ sauce then end up in Memphis with a hint of mustard or in South Carolina which has a rich vinegar base. Pair your meal with some of the famous Smashed Potatoes before they are sold out!
